Chemical Experiments
Acid and Base
January 9 - 2021
This video shows the third experiment which was about the reaction between citric acid (which is basically vinegar, Mortaza told us) and Sodium Hydrogen Carbonic, which is a base.
After the experiment, we read on the experiment card that the result of the experiment is Sodium Citrate, Water, and carbon dioxide (the bubbles in the liquid). After Mortaza heard that the result contains sodium citrate, he immediately informed us that sodium citrate was an anticoagulant that was used in blood transfusion to prevent clotting of the blood. I had no idea what he was talking about, until I checked it on the Internet. Later on, he told me that he had learnt about it in a Ted Ed video.
Rising and Falling Bubbles
January 10 - 2021
The forth experiment was basically about the same chemical reaction but this time we observed the rise of the colored bubbles through a layer of oil and then it seemed that after a while the bubbles fell back again. Mortaza correctly explained the reason behind the falling of the bubbles. He said that when the bubbles reached the surface of the oil, some of the gas released and then the remaining became heavy enough to return back.
